The Macula is the pinhead sized area of your retina that enables you to see details. Macular degeneration is a condition where the cells of the macula degenerate which leads to a blurry and distorted central vision.

Dry macular degeneration is often a slow unset condition that can start after the age of 50 and the chance of developing it increases every decade of life.

Wet macular degeneration can be of rapid onset and usually requires treatment by an ophthalmologist where periodic injections are made into the eye to control the condition.

To help prevent macular degeneration, wear UV 400 sunglasses, have a balanced diet including green leafy vegetables, exercise, do not smoke and have your eyes examined regularly.
